BuzzFeed Makes Bill Donahue Look Evil, Red and Scary

Oh, this is just lovely. Rosie Gray at BuzzFeed has posted a hit piece on Bill Donahue of The Catholic League with a menacing red picture of him and a quote, taken out of context, that may appear to some, at first glance, to be anti-Semitic.

“Jews Had Better Not Make Enemies Of Their Catholic Friends”

Read the whole thing.

The operative term there is “friends,”  folks.

If you only read the quote she selected, and not the full exchange, and especially if you have an already-existing discomfort about Catholicism, it may seem that Bill Donahue is being anti-Jewish. Um, no. He’s simply making the point that Jews and Christians (who are “friends”) need to stick together during these troubling times when so many are attacking people of faith. I agree with him. We DO need to stick together. Otherwise, you know what will happen, right? Yea, we’re all toast.

Evangelicals agree, by the way.

They don’t call it the “Judeo-Christian ethic” for nothing, folks. The Judeo-Christian ethic is what is under attack here, and it includes, but is not limited to, freedom of conscience.

It’s important to note, and I am sure Bill Donahue would agree, that there is no way on God’s green earth that Catholics would have stood up and protested so loudly if the mandate had forced us to pay for circumcisions instead of contraception. Why is that? Because it’s not a sin for us to pay for a circumcision. It’s a sin for us to pay for contraception…and that’s the point.

Do the math, Rosie. Rather than exposing Bill Donahue, you’ve exposed your own intolerance for Catholicism.
