This is disappointing, but it is not unexpected.
From Minnesota Public Radio:
As Minnesota voters prepare to go to the polls this fall, the Catholic Church has mounted a major effort to convince them to approve a constitutional amendment that would only allow marriage between men and women.
But Catholics are not united behind the church’s official position, a point made clear today, when a group representing 80 former Catholic priests spoke out against the marriage amendment. They said the amendment violates Christian principles of love and justice.
I welcome a smaller Church provided that it is more holy. As the Church becomes smaller and more holy, then comes the increase in conversions.
By the way, they are not “former” Catholic priests. They are retired, but they are still priests. This does not mean they are correct. Remember that it was misapplication of Church teaching that resulted in the burning of St. Joan of Arc. Those among us who know what the truth is are not dismayed by those who would misapply and misinterpret Church teaching.
