How do you react when you see things that offend you? As for me, if I see something offensive on television, I turn the channel. To be honest, there is so much on television that is offensive to me, I barely watch anything anymore. Perhaps most people have been desensitized. I hope not.
Christians look the other way. They turn the other cheek. Christians have been able to live quite comfortably in a world where pornography exists, because we can avoid it without disrupting our lives in any way. Not so with homosexual behavior which we are apt to see anywhere and which is as offensive as pornography to us. This is no longer private bedroom behavior that we are talking about. To be “gay” means to be “out” in the world and to be unashamed. It is becoming more and more unavoidable for us. Mind you, again, it is just as bad for a Christian to see homosexual behavior as it is to see hardcore pornography. Certainly, it has ever been so for me my entire life even though I did not become a Christian until I was 23 years old. There has never been a time when it was not offensive to me. Being contrary to human nature, it is naturally offensive to most people, but when one’s mind grows corrupt, one accepts corruption, and so more and more people are not offended anymore. I still am, and it is my right to be offended, not only as a Christian, but as a human being. It would be easier for me to give my life in Egypt under the Islamists than to have to live in a world where I could not avoid seeing homosexual acts, or pornography. This, they call “homophobia.” In Catholicism, we call it “having a properly formed conscience.”
Corrupted minds do corrupt things. A person who is willing to steal is more apt to be willing to lie. A person who is willing to lie is more apt to be willing to vandalize something. So it is with corruption of the heart, mind and soul. It spreads, particularly when one has no reasoning for avoiding sin. Homosexual acts are GRAVE sins. Because of this, they can lead to graver corruption.
This is what we are seeing in the “gay rights” movement when we see things like the attack on St. Francis Xavier parish in Fall River Massachusetts.
A Catholic parish in the Diocese of Fall River has become the object of threats of violence, and vandalism, because of a sign posted on church property supporting the traditional definition of marriage. Yesterday, Saint Francis Xavier Parish in the town of Acushnet displayed a message on the church’s billboard reading “Two men are friends, not spouses.”
Not everyone who identifies as homosexual will threaten to burn a church. Not everyone who identifies as Christian is guaranteed not to burn someone’s house down. All people are sinners on some level, but grave sin leads to grave sin, no matter who you are. Unless this country turns back to God, we are going to see America continue to go down the tubes, and it is not going to be pretty.
Please keep your sex lives in your bedrooms. Catholics will not go into the closet in America.
