Don't Hit the Rainbow Wall
It is very difficult to write about this and keep a straight face, but I will do my level best. Salon has reprinted an Alter Net (liberal) article entitled “Republicans: Wired for Homophobia.”
Okay, I fully admit that I am hard-wired to be averse to homosexuality. In fact, this is a reality of human nature that has been known to philosophers for centuries as “Natural Law.” Below is an article that I wrote in December. Perhaps it will help to explain that, yes, Republicans are, in fact, hard-wired for “truths” that are “self-evident.” In fact, all human beings are hard-wired for self-evident truth, but we are also given (by our Creator) the free will to be able to turn away from that truth and to become corrupt. Unfortunately, sometimes, we can stray so far away from the truth that we lose our capability to understand it. I call that “hitting the rainbow wall.” Those are the ones who generally register as…you guessed it…Democrats.
As for the authors claim that children raised by same-sex couples have good “well-being,” I’m not sure I can believe that anyone who thinks homosexuality is okay would be competent in determining authentic “well-being” for children, or anyone else for that matter.
Natural Law. You either get it or you don’t. As the Founders of our country said:
We hold these truths to be self-evident…
There are certain “truths” that are “self-evident.” That is, they are known to all of us who are created by God.
Catholic Encyclopedia entry on Natural Law:
Among the Roman jurists natural law designated those instincts and emotions common to man and the lower animals, such as the instinct of self-preservation and love of offspring. In its strictly ethical application—the sense in which this article treats it—the natural law is the rule of conduct which is prescribed to us by the Creator in the constitution of the nature with which He has endowed us.
There are some truths known even to animals, such as the instinct of self-preservation. There are certain truths known to man in regard to how he should conduct himself, whether or not he has ever even heard of God. Man is naturally averse to cannibalism, for instance. Certainly, there are examples of cannibalism in mankind, but a desire to eat another human being does not generally occur within man. Cannibals have been taught to be cannibals. It is a “self-evident truth” that cannibalism is to be avoided. So, too, the truth that homosexuality is to be avoided is a “self-evident truth” known to all. It is “the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God” that the Founders gave as the reasoning that they had the right to break away from the tyranny of the so-called “Divine Right of Kings” enjoyed by King George III.
You either get this, or you don’t. It’s Natural Law.
A child born into a tribe of cannibals is not born by nature to be a cannibal. Rather, he has his mind corrupted by the culture in which he was born to believe that cannibalism is fine, even though it is not fine. I know a little bit about this since my brother’s wife is from the Naga people. The Naga used to be headhunters, but now the vast majority of them are Christian. Christianity, which transforms souls, liberated the Naga people from headhunting much as standing on Natural Law liberated the American colonists from the Divine Right of Kings.
A young activist by the name of Adam Peters apparently has hit the rainbow wall of no longer being able to grasp the “self-evident truth” he was created with. He tweets that he asked Rick Santorum a question about same-sex marriage and that Santorum’s answer to the question was “a jumbled mess of a response.”
Here is the question and Rick Santorum’s response. If your mind has hit the rainbow wall, you will agree with Mr. Peters. If not, you will at least understand that Rick Santorum’s point here is not “a jumbled mess of a response”. That’s how Natural Law works. You either get this or you don’t, and no amount of arguing is going to convince a brain that has hit the rainbow wall. It will take God’s grace for that.
Those who do not have the capacity to see the moral reasoning in the Christian argument resort to calling it “hatred” because their darkened minds can’t find another explanation for it. That is why, when Catholic adoption agencies in Illinois were forced to close, those who sought to force these views on the Church claimed that it is because the Church is “bigoted”.
If we reject, as a nation, the entire reasoning that the Founders gave for breaking away from tyranny…..America is dead. The first severe wound was Roe v. Wade, which stripped from the unborn their Natural right to life. The mortal blow is “gay marriage,” if we allow it to progress and overtake us.
