Huffington Post is having a field day criticizing Rick Santorum’s personal views as a Catholic on “gay rights” and on contraception.
As I have explained before, Rick Santorum prefers silence in the law in regard to adult bedroom behavior. The reason he is for silence in the law is because he knows the Left uses any opportunity in law to push an agenda that is offensive to people of faith. It shall ever be so.
Rick Santorum believes as the Founders of our country believed, that our rights are God-given and that they are very basic. To get an idea of what these basic rights are, just read the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights. Simple, right? It’s not so simple to the Left. They can’t seem to get their minds around the idea that people should have the freedom to believe different things about things like “gay sex”. They want laws enshrining “gay rights”, and when you enshrine something in law as a “right”, it means that government must defend that “right” through law enforcement. And so, in the “gay rights” area, we have a situation where law enforcement may be called upon to force all people, regardless of their beliefs, to accept sexual relationships that they may find abhorrent.
So it is with the “gay rights” debate. It is not enough for the Left that “all persons” be secured in their God-given rights as was the vision in the founding of our country…or that all should have the protection of the basic Bill of Rights by virtue of the fact that they are human beings. No, they must drive wedges to divide us and tear us apart based on things like sexual preference.
That is why they attack Rick Santorum for saying things that defend the reasoning upon which our country was founded:
“It’s about what America’s basic moral values should be that would be reflected in the law. Laws should try as much as possible to comport with the higher law and also should comport with what reason would dictate. And what reason dictates is that children need mothers and fathers. Some say well, through technology, same-sex couples can have children. Well they can, through either adoption, or artificial insemination… but they don’t get the mother and a father.”
America gets to decide in this election — this very election coming up — whether the traditional family is the basic unit of society or if the traditional family is meaningless. America gets to decide if our rights are basic and come from God, as the Founders intended, or if they are based on mob rule depending on what the majority decides our “rights” are.
This is why it is so important for America to elect Rick Santorum. He’s the only one who can make the argument against mob rule and for the specific, basic values upon which our country was founded. He will defend to the death the reasoning that the Founders gave for breaking away from tyranny. We can hold to that reasoning, or we can choose mob rule. It’s really that simple and it’s really that important.
