A claim leveled against Rick Santorum is that his support for legal personhood for all human life, from conception to natural death, is over the top. Rick Santorum believes that we should look to human biology to understand when life begins and that the law should protect the right to life of all persons from the natural beginning of life to the natural end of life . Here is my response to a critic of his position:
Rick Santorum supports personhood for all human life, however he understands America is divided on this issue and he has called only for a public debate about it. It’s very important in America to be able to tolerate different viewpoints. If we cannot tolerate different viewpoints then America is dead. You have a viewpoint that is held by a lot of people. Rick Santorum has a different view and he wants a public debate. No more, no less.
I would add to this that if we have learned anything from history it should be that those who cannot support public debate about differing opinions are historically the same ones who do not respect the dignity of human life and are willing to advocate for the destruction of those deemed unfit or “unworthy” of life.
Vote Rick Santorum. Our future depends on it.
